Many people think that questions about how to wear lingerie are taboo and they shouldn’t be discussed with anyone. Even when women go to a store, they are not always willing to ask for help. Yes, but only in one situation — during a workout. Your sporty athletic wear has to be made of thick fabric that absorbs moisture well. Sometimes it is necessary to leave your underwear in the gym locker, because excessive friction can cause irritation.

If the skin is already damaged, don’t remove the underwear. It is best to prepare for workouts in advance and buy special underwear that won’t injure the skin.

3. How many pairs of underwear should you have in your wardrobe?

There are no strict rules about this question, so everything really depends on your lifestyle. What clothes do you wear and how often do you wash them? Do you go to the gym? By answering these questions, you can find out how many panties and bras you’ll need to feel good.

What you can do is design a strict laundry schedule and have about 10 panties and 3 bras. Another option is to have a 3-week reserve and to just not worry about fresh underwear for a long time. A study about this showed that an average woman has about 34 pairs of panties in her wardrobe, 14 of them could be worn on special occasions. Choose bras depending on the model and fabric of your clothing: some are good for dresses, transparent blouses, sportswear, and so on.

4. When can you not wear a bra and when do you have to wear one?

The desire to give your body just a bit more freedom, especially during the summer season is understandable. There is no rule that says it is prohibited. From time to time, women from around the world claim that it shouldn’t be criticized when women’s nipples can be seen under clothes. For example, in 2014, the campaign #freethenipple was launched.

The answer to this question is still not clear and there is no one single opinion about it. In order to avoid any misunderstandings at the office, it is best to wear a bra or choose clothes made of thick, non-transparent fabrics. Another option is to use special nipple covers or wear a bralette. There are definitely no rules about walks, so it’s up to you if you want to wear a bra or not.

5. Is it okay to wear different sized bras?

Bra sizes don’t have standards or benchmarks, like mathematical values, so many women have different-sized bras. We can see different numbers on bra tags depending on the manufacturer or location. For example, the European 75 is an American 34, but in France and Spain, it’s a size 90. It is all because different countries use different methods to measure the same parameters. There is even a term called sister size which is used to indicate similar sizes.

6. What’s the most popular mistake when choosing a bra?

The biggest mistake we make is not choosing the right size. For example, a 32A is too tight in the cups. What do we do? Instead of going to 32B, we go to 34A. In other words, we pick a bra with a larger band, when we actually need bigger cups.

7. Why are the bra’s bands are always riding up and the straps always slipping down?

This happens as a result of the previous mistake: the straps of your bra are too long and the cups are too small. Try to make the band a bit tighter and adjust the straps.

Remember: the straps lose their shape faster than any other part of the bra. Aside from that, they can stretch while washing. So, adjust the length after every time you launder the bra (once it’s dry).

8. Can you sleep wearing a bra?

Some people say that sleeping in a bra supports the breasts and prevents them from losing their shape. This is an old myth that has nothing to do with reality. You can sleep in a bra (just not too often) if the cups are soft. It is important that you feel comfortable. If you don’t feel comfortable, the bra might irritate your skin, slow down the blood circulation, and otherwise interrupt your sleep.

When choosing the right clothes for sleep, pay attention to the fabric they are made of. The fabric has to be as natural as possible in order to allow the skin to breathe and the body should be able to lay in any position. Cotton, silk, and flannel are the best options.

9. How do you choose a bra if your breasts are asymmetrical?

There are several ways to solve this problem. First, you can try to choose a bra made of elastic fabric (satin, cotton with elastane, and so on). It can adjust to small differences. Secondly, you can buy a bra with firm cups, based on the size of the bigger breast.

A non-standard solution is to use a push-up bra with removable pads and just remove the pad from the bigger cup. If you have different size breasts because of a surgery or an illness, you will need a special bra that will make you feel more comfortable.

10. What is the best fabric for underwear? Does it even matter?

The fabric does matter, but there are things you should know. The best option is clothing made from cotton that allows the air to circulate freely and still absorb moisture. Undergarments that are made from natural materials will help protect the wearer from infections.

Synthetic fabrics are not always a synonym of poor quality and won’t always harm the wearers health. Certain kinds of synthetic materials are great for workouts. Lingerie made of this material absorbs sweat, helps with thermoregulation, and makes exercising more comfortable and more productive.

11. Can you put your bra in the dryer?

We know all sorts of things about how to wash our underwear: all the machine modes and everything like that. In some cases, it is also OK to wash panties and bras by hand. But this is only half of the answer, because the wrong drying methods can ruin good underwear and bras.

Using dryer is definitely not recommended: a high enough temperature has a destructive effect on bra straps. So, the best course of action is to hang your undergarments to dry, without using any devices.
