A$AP Rocky’s lawyer won’t appeal Swedish verdict

An attorney representing A$AP Rocky says the rapper does not have the energy to launch an appeal of his July assault conviction in Sweden.

The Associated Press reported Wednesday that Slobodan Jovicic told Swedish news agency TT that his client will not engage in further legal proceedings over a June 30 street fight that the rapper said began when two men refused to stop harassing him and his entourage.

A$AP Rocky argued in court that his participation in the fight was merely in self-defense, but a jury found he was not “subject to a current or imminent criminal attack” at the time of the brawl.

President Trump began supporting calls for his release after reportedly being made aware of the situation by rapper Kanye West, a vocal supporter of Trump’s, and West’s wife, Kim Kardashian West.

“I personally don’t know A$AP Rocky, but I can tell you that he has tremendous support from the African American community in this country and when I say African American, I think I can really say from everybody in the country because we’re all one,” he told reporters in the Oval Office last month.

Despite Trump’s efforts to secure the rapper’s release, Sweden’s prime minister declined to intervene, stating that A$AP Rocky would not receive special treatment.

Under his sentence, A$AP Rocky will not serve prison time unless he commits a similar offense in Sweden in the future.
