Castro tweaks brother’s beard: ‘If I knew it’d look like that I wouldn’t have suggested it’

Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro responded to his twin brother Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) joking Tuesday that his brother “made” him grow his beard with a quip of his own on Twitter.

During questioning of White House Ukraine expert Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, the Texas congressman noted that Vindman, like himself, was an identical twin, saying “It’s great to talk to a fellow identical twin. I hope that your brother’s nicer to you than mine is to me and doesn’t make you grow a beard,” drawing chuckles from Vindman and the audience.

“Let’s be clear—if I knew it’d look like that I wouldn’t have suggested it,” Julián Castro tweeted Tuesday afternoon.

The brothers have frequently joked about their status as identical twins on and off social media, with Joaquin offering to play Julián after Latino advocacy groups criticized “Saturday Night Live” for failing to include him in a sketch depicting the Democratic debates in the show’s season premiere. “I get mistaken for that guy all the time,” the congressman added.
