Clinton tweets support for impeachment after White House releases call details

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton doubled down on her support for impeaching President Trump on Wednesday, saying he is a “clear and present danger” to the U.S.

“The president of the United States has betrayed our country. That’s not a political statement—it’s a harsh reality, and we must act,” she said in a tweet. “He is a clear and present danger to the things that keep us strong and free. I support impeachment.”

Her remarks came shortly after the White House released a transcript of Trump’s call to Ukrainian President Volodmyr Zelensky on July 25. The White House memo detailing the call shows that Trump asked Zelensky to work with his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, and expressed hope that he “can look into” former Vice President Joe Biden’s role in the firing of a Ukrainian prosecutor.

Clinton’s tweet follows similar remarks from a People magazine interview published Tuesday.

“I’m in favor of moving toward impeachment. I did not come to that decision easily or quickly, but this is an emergency, as I see it,” she said. “This latest behavior around Ukraine, trying to enlist the president of Ukraine in a plot to undermine former Vice President Biden or lose the military aid he needs to defend against Trump’s friend, Vladimir Putin — if that’s not an impeachable offense, I don’t know what is.”
