Court Allows Class Action Against Facebook Over Use Of Facial Recognition Tech

A federal appeals court ruled Thursday that a group of Facebook users can move forward with their class action lawsuit challenging the company’s use of facial recognition technology.

In a 3-0 decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit in San Francisco, a panel of judges rejected Facebook’s attempt to stop a class action from Illinois plaintiffs who claim the company unlawfully gathers and stores users’ biometric data without their consent.
