Driver Banned After ‘Dukes Of Hazzard Style’ Crash At Norfolk Roundabout

A driver has been banned after he was captured on camera flying through the air across a roundabout ‘Dukes of Hazzard style’.

In case you haven’t seen the footage yet, take a look. It’s seriously dangerous, seriously illegal, but also just a little bit impressive.

18-year-old Ryan Lamb was spotted catching some air in his van as he ran straight over a roundabout on the A11 in Norfolk.

The van seriously took off over the top of the roundabout, spiralling through the air before crashing on the other side. He didn’t quite stick the landing in the way that ‘them Duke boys’ became famous for.

The teenager, of Beck Row in Suffolk, was found guilty of dangerous driving at Norwich Magistrates Court after he pleaded not guilty to driving a motor vehicle dangerously.

It was a bold call, and it hasn’t paid off for him.

Lamb was disqualified from driving or obtaining a licence for 12 months, he was also ordered to perform 80 hours of unpaid work and must pay £85 as a victim surcharge.

Once he is eligible again, he must also complete an extended driving test in order to regain his licence.

The incident occurred as he was heading to the Sundown music festival at the Norfolk Showground when he failed to stop at the ‘Stag’ roundabout near to Attleborough on 1 September 2018.

The silver Citroen Berlingo van was travelling at some whack when Lamb failed to slow down and launched into the air across the roundabout.

He was 17 at the time of the incident.

Bench chairman Jim Agnew, in sentencing, told Lamb: “Your driving fell far below the expected standard of competent and careful driving.”

That seems like a fair assessment.

Lamb was travelling with two passengers in the van at the time of the crash, but managed to escape with only cuts and bruises.

The unemployed teenager had only been driving for three months at the time.

35-year-old Andy Daynes, the motorcyclist who captured the crash on his helmet camera, said that he was ‘shocked’ after witnessing the crash.

Yeah, it’ll do that.

He said: “I was actually on my motorbike behind him so I saw it all. I pulled over along with some other drivers to see if he was OK.

“It is quite a bad roundabout, he just didn’t see what was coming because he was going so fast.

“The driver had a few cuts and bruises but the ambulance came straight away and took him to hospital.

“He just didn’t see the roundabout coming.”

Perhaps he’ll have a better look in future.
