Obama offers Thanksgiving message: ‘Give back to those around us’

Former President Obama shared a photo of his family distributing food to people in a tweet on Thursday, wishing Americans a “Happy Thanksgiving.”

“Today, we give thanks for our blessings, give back to those around us, and enjoy some time — and turkey, and maybe a little football — with the ones we love,” Obama wrote.

“From the Obama family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving,” he added.

In the photo accompanying the tweet, the Obama family appeared to be volunteering at a food bank. Similarly last year, the former president also volunteered at the Greater Chicago Food Depository to help prepare food for others before the holiday.

Earlier in the week, Obama also tweeted another message to his 110 million followers ahead of the holiday.

“Before arguing with friends or family around the Thanksgiving table, take a look at the science behind arguing better,” he tweeted on Wednesday.

“And it’ll never hurt to try this: ‘Listen to people, get them to think about their own experience, and highlight your common humanity,’” he added, citing a line from a recent article published by Vox titled “Most people are bad at arguing. These 2 techniques will make you better.”

Thursday marks the former first family’s third Thanksgiving since leaving the White House.

President Trump on Thursday also shared a tweet marking the Thanksgiving holiday, after overseeing the annual turkey pardon at the White House earlier in the week.
