Pussy Riot to launch North American tour raising funds for Planned Parenthood

Russian feminist band Pussy Riot has announced plans to launch a North American tour early next year in an effort to raise funds for Planned Parenthood.

The band is scheduled to begin the tour in Los Angeles on March 13 and will hit 17 stops in between until performing its final concert in Canada on May 19. Other major stops along the tour include Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, and Brooklyn.

According to Billboard, the band has teamed up with the organization PLUS1 for the effort. The group works with artists to donate $1 from each concert ticket to a select cause or charity.

For their coming tour, Pussy Riot has reportedly chosen to put all of its donations as part of the effort toward Planned Parenthood. According to Billboard, the group will be donating $1 per each concert ticket sold to Planned Parenthood affiliates local to each concert area.

Earlier this year, the band captured headlines after it announced it would be holding a concert in Alabama that would benefit Planned Parenthood and the Yellowhammer Fund.

The concert in Birmingham, which later reportedly sold out, came shortly after the passage of a restrictive abortion law in the state that did not include exceptions for rape or incest.

The abortion ban, which was met with much opposition and legal challenges from Planned Parenthood and American Civil Liberties Union at the time, was the most restrictive in the nation.
