Prosecutors in Minnesota have charged singer R. Kelly with two counts of prostitution and solicitation of a girl under the age of 18.
According to CBS, the charges relate to a 2001 incident where the R&B singer met the child at a promotional event before a performance.
The girl allegedly asked for his autograph and he gave her his number and told her to call him.
Prosecutors claim the girl called Kelly and she was invited to his hotel in Minneapolis where she was offered $200 to dance and take her clothes off.
Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said: “This kind of conduct, particularly juveniles, is simply unacceptable in the state of Minnesota and frankly everywhere.
“She was a juvenile at the time. We have special laws to protect our juveniles, and we are going to enforce them.”
The girl was reportedly given front-row VIP seats to one of Kelly’s performances after the incident and when her brother asked how she got the tickets she revealed what happened.
Kelly’s lawyer, Steve Greenberg, tweeted: “Give me a break. This is beyond absurd.”
