The Secret Service is buying two Jet Skis in an effort to protect the first family at waterfront resorts, according to an agency memo reported by Washington, D.C.’s NBC News 4.
The agency said it needs the equipment to protect the Trump family while they engage in “water sports” at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., and while the family is in the Hamptons in New York, according to the report.
“The First Family is very active in water sports. Several family members along with their guest (sic) participate in open water activities for which USSS Special Agent Rescue Swimmers are responsible,” the memo says, according to NBC.
The Secret Service is reportedly requesting two 4-stroke, 4-cylinder 1498cc watercraft that can carry a maximum weight of 900 pounds.
The Kawasaki model that meets the qualifications retail for about $10,000 each, NBC noted.
The reported memo claims special agents have rented such watercraft “with their own personal funds” in the past.
A Secret Service official was not immediately available for comment.
