said Saturday that he has no knowledge of any undocumented immigrants who may still work for the Trump Organization following reports of dozens of undocumented workers being fired from jobs at his various properties.
At a press gaggle, the president argued that he has no control over the business of the Trump Organization while dismissing the issue as a widespread problem in the resort and hotel industries.
“Are you confident there are no undocumented immigrants working at your Bedminster property or other Trump golf properties?” a pool reporter asked Friday.
“Well, that I don’t know because I don’t run it,” Trump responded. “But I would say this: Probably every club in the United States has that because it seems to be, from what I understand, a way that people did business.”
Trump’s remarks came after nearly two dozen undocumented workers who have been fired from Trump properties so far this year sent a letter sent to the White House urging the administration to rethink deportation orders that some face.
“We are modest people who represent the dreams of the 11 million undocumented men, women and children who live and work in this country,” the letter reads. “You know we are hard workers and that we are not criminals or seeking a free ride to America. We all pay our taxes, love our faith and our family, and simply want to find a place for ourselves to make America even better.”
Trump and the White House have not responded publicly to the letter.
