Women Lose Out On Three Hours Sleep A Night Because Of Their Partner, Study Says

As the UK’s heatwave continues, we’re all struggling to get our sleep, but now experts have claimed that women are getting even less sleep than fellas – and it’s partly down to their partners.

A survey, which looked at 2,000 British couples, was carried out by Bensons for Beds and found that women are missing out on a whopping three hours of sleep each night, or to put it another way, 105 hours a year or 45 whole days of sleeplessness.

One in three women say they wake up every single night, compared to just two out of every ten men, while one in two women say they feel ‘constantly sleep deprived’.

Researchers got a varied response when asking women why they weren’t getting enough sleep, but one in four women their partner’s snoring is to blame.

Fourteen percent said it was due to having to get up with the kids through the night.

A third of women asked said they believed their partners were just ‘better at sleeping’.

The impact of lack of sleep leaves 73 percent of women saying they are ‘at their wits end’, while one in three say they feel depressed.

Helen Nunn, from Bensons for Beds, said: “Sleep – or lack of sleep – can affect so many aspects of our day-to-day lives.

“It’s worrying to see that this research has found women are getting less sleep and feeling more tired than their male counterparts.”

Bensons for Beds sleep expert, Stephanie Romiszewski added: “It makes sense that men and women have different sleep needs – we are in some ways very different.

“What with hormonal changes that come with menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause, the biological differences alone are huge. With this in mind, it’s really helpful for us to get into a few good sleep habits that can help get us through.”
